Really fun, but different from zoos in the US. Most of the animals are native to Ecuador. Nevertheless, we had a great time!!! ..

Great place, friendly staff, social distancing is respected, very clean.

If you are from North America, do not expect to see a Zoo like we have. They have mostly Tropical Animals, mostly Birds, and limited people because of Covid.

It was just ok…not as many animals as we expected. The grounds are really beautiful with many greens and flowering plants. Due to the pandemic the path through the zoo was one way, which created a bit of a congestion, having to wait for the people in front to move before being able to observe the animals. Also, most of the time animals were a little too far away to see properly. Some of the exhibits were closed, for example, nocturnal animals. It may be worth one visit, just keep in mind, if you are staying in Quito, the zoo is really out of the way. Once you get there, the only way out is to order a taxi, so make sure you have the app installed on your phone. Otherwise, you would have to wait for a taxi to drop someone off, and take you back to town, which is costly. If you decide to use an Uber, it is much cheaper than a taxi, but they did not seem to be hanging out close to the zoo, and it would have been a nearly 30 minutes wait for an Uber to get there to pick you up….

Not wheelchair friendly. I phoned in advance & they told me they had wheelchairs to offer- which they did. However the paths were so uneven and often very steep that I almost dumped my 88 year-old dad on the ground trying to navigate. At one point a family saw us in distress on a steep incline & offered help. Zoo staff offered no assistance whatsoever, including a warning of what we might expect. Too bad and rather surprising state of affairs for what otherwise could have been an enjoyable outing.
