El Vergel Centro Comercial

This is a recently remodeled store. It's inspired by upscale US supermarkets. It has the best selection of international foods of any Cuenca supermarket and is clean, well organized, and shelves are restocked regularly. Checkout is efficient with good COVID protocols.

Great health food options. Milk kefir, Kombucha, fresh aloe vera stalks, frozen acai berry, quinoa, meat, veg, fruit etc

The new Supermaxi is great.. lots of new items from the USA and also EU.

Located to the southeast of Parque de la Madre, the commercial center is anchored by the dazzling new SuperMaxi, a five star establishment (see my review, posted separately) surrounded by a number of less than stellar small shops that seem transplanted from a middle grade shopping center geared toward a totally different clientele. All are pleasant enough but not one of them appears to be outstanding in any particular way. The surrounding streets seem anchored by a couple of additional very nice furniture stores and a number of banks, as well as a MacDonald’s and a number of restaurants, none of which seem particularly outstanding. Three and a half stars if I could but since there’s nothing visually attractive about the area other than the nearby park, I’ll leave it at three stars for now.
