Museo Jacinto Jijón y Caamaño

Excellent collection of pre-Columbian pottery (5000 BC to 1500 CE) beautifully displayed. Some pre-Columbian Peruvian textiles too. Collection of high quality 19 century religious and secular paintings, furniture. New Museu Weilbaum in same building gives overview of development of civilization in S pre columbian America. Free entry, photo id to enter University grounds (eg photocopy passport which you should do anyway).

He exhibits Ecuadorian, Peruvian, Central American archeology, ethnography of the Amazon, colonial, republican art and historical relics. The Jacinto Jijón y Caamaño Museum of the PUCE is a university museum, equipped with state-of-the-art, interactive, pedagogical and playful technology that exposes the thoughts of Jacinto Jijón and Caamaño regarding his vision of the history of Ecuador from his archaeological investigations , anthropological, linguistic, ethnographic, artistic. It is also a sample of what Jijón and Caamaño treasured as a scientific and selective collector of Ecuadorian art and documents. The exhibition is developed according to thematic axes of archeology, ethnography, art and history, with cultural assets from the various funds of the Museum: Jacinto Jijón y Caamaño, José Gabriel Navarro, Carlos Bossano and PUCE.

Very good collection

It is a good place, where you can go to appreciate different works depending on the exhibition, they usually vary according to the time. The exhibitions usually stay for a month and then a new one arrives. Like each exhibition that comes is good and interesting, they always have information so you can enjoy them without problems. In this museum there are also usually many art exhibitions which also gives it a touch of more life and difference due to the varied content they have. The exhibitions they are going to bring always have publicity throughout the University and a mega banner so that people find out what they are going to see next.
