Most of the archaeological pieces that are exhibited in the museum were owned by Eugene and Hilde Weilbauer. Others correspond to pieces resulting from research by archaeologist Josefino Pedro Porras Garcés (+). The museum exhibits a total of 1731 pieces from various Ecuadorian cultures from the Paleoindian or Preceramic Period to the Integration Period. The museum has a Library Room. Part of the museum is also the “Tiestoteca” that offers a collection of 991 ceramic fragments. It has a sample of 103 black and white photographs of some of Father Porras' research. There is a workshop where pre-Columbian iconography is used to perform handicrafts in order to spread pre-Columbian art.

Excellent! A very didactic and concise tour of our pre-Hispanic history. There are many pieces that fans of art and history will enjoy. Highly recommended and when leaving on the same floor is the Jacinto Jijón y Caamaño museum which is another wonder. Currently both are free
