Edgar Vargas (10/17/2019)
Writer, researcher of historical affairs and Dominican religious born in Cotacachi, Imbabura province, on April 1, 1865, son of Mr. Ezequiel Vacas and Mrs. Angela Galindo. Raised under the austere and uplifting customs of the Christian home of his parents, from his childhood a marked religious vocation woke up in him, so very soon he devoted himself entirely to prayer and the service of God. After completing his first teaching, in 1880 he entered the Dominican Convent of Quito, and on October 16, 1887 he was consecrated priest in the Cathedral Church. Immediately, to begin his pastoral work and carry out his first geographical investigations, “he toured the Ecuadorian East fulfilling his mission for the benefit of the indigenous settlers who settled there, as well as studying their customs, the natural phenomena of the region to give the country a complete geographical map »(F. and L. Barriga López.- Dictionary of Ecuadorian Literature). In 1891 he published, in Jíbara language, "The Cato of the Christian Doctrine", through which he tried to initiate in the doctrine of Christ all the eastern tribes of that language, and later, refuting the work of González Suárez in the who comments negatively on the mission and performance of the members of his religious order, he published «Historical Rectifications to Volume IV». In 1895 he published "Nankijukima", a novel among savages that narrates his travels through the regions of the jíbaros, exposing the experiences and incidents of his stay in that hostile environment surrounded by headhunters.
