Pühalepa St. Laurentius Church, or Pühalepa Church in short, is a church in Pühalepa village, Hiiumaa municipality, Hiiumaa. This is the oldest church in Hiiumaa. The church is dedicated to St. Lawrence. The church is used by the EELK Pühalepa Laurentsius congregation. The church is located half a kilometer east of the crossroads in the middle of Suuremõisa and 5½ km west of Heltermaa. The Heltermaa – Käina road passes directly south of the church and the Heltermaa – Kärdla road passes northeast. From Suuremõisa there is an oak alley towards the castle. Despite the fact that the tallest trees in Hiiumaa grow in the Suuremõisa park forest (also around the church), the tower of Pühalepa Church stands far away. Pühalepa Church was originally built in the Gothic style, the reconstructions have been done in the pseudo-Gothic style. The church is one-nighted. The walls are white, the roof is reddish brown and the roof of the bell tower is black (gray). There are high stained glass windows on the north, east and south sides. At the top of the church bell tower above the sphere is a tower rooster showing the direction of the wind. A cross has been erected at the eastern end of the roof. The church is surrounded by a cemetery limited by field stones (Pühalepa church garden), where some circular crosses have been preserved. Next to the church in the chapel is the sarcophagus of Countess Ebba Margaretha Stenbock, descendant of Jakob De la Gardie. Source Wikipedia
