A small and cozy church.

Mäe 8, 71020 Viljandi 58.364742, 25.604732 58 ° 21 '53.07 ", 25 ° 36' 17.04" In 1846, Orthodoxy came to one of the oldest cities in Estonia - Viljandi (the old name is Fellin), when an Orthodox parish opened by the Decree of the Holy Synod and the next year a simple wooden church was built, consecrated in the name of the Prophet, Forerunner and Baptist of the Lord John. The church was built from rough uncouth beams; it turned out to be inconsistent and was located in a swampy area. In 1960, the old wooden church was dismantled and the sacristy of the Yanovskaya Lutheran Church was transferred to use. However, the room of the sacristy was gradually dilapidated, overhaul was coming up in the Yanovskaya church. Metropolitan Alexy of Tallinn and Estonia (now His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia) appointed Acting Priest Archpriest Vyacheslav Seliverstov and instructed him to secure another room for the parish. City authorities proposed a municipal building. The architect Aili Liik from Tallinn, without being Orthodox, completely free of charge, guided by the instructions of Father Vyacheslav, made a project for the reconstruction of the room: all the internal partitions were broken, the windows were lengthened, an altar absid and a tiny porch were added, a small dome was erected on the roof. An iconostasis, icon cases, and also an elegant tomb from one closed temple were installed inside. The building has acquired a real church look. It seems that it has long stood on this place, decorating the city.
