Old Anatomical Theatre

The University of Tartu Museum at the historic cathedral is open for the annual exhibition " Crime and Punishment " . The exhibition focuses on the development of forensic science and the complexity of justice on the basis of two true births. The Tartu Old Anatomicum (Anatomical Theater) is one of the first educational buildings restored in 1802 at the University of Tartu, designed by architect I. Krause in 1803-1805. In 1901 - 1918, N. N. Burdenko, the famous Russian (later Soviet) surgeon and founder of Soviet neurosurgery, worked in the anatomic. Initially, the building was a classic rotunda, based on a quadrangular basement, lined with rustic. The rotunda is enlivened by tall narrow windows with a balustrade at the bottom and small mezzanine windows at the top. The entrance is decorated with wrought-iron decorative urns.
