Prior to this, the Lutherans of the railway village of Tapa visited the parishes of Ambla and Maarya. On June 19, 1921, Bishop Jacob Cook, who visited Tapa, consecrated a house of worship located north of the railway. This place was dedicated to St. John. On the same day, the consecration of the cemetery took place. In the 1920s, the number of members of the parish reached 500, it was decided to build a new prayer house. We had to collect money for more than 10 years, in 1931 a serious discussion began on the construction of the Lutheran church in Tapa. The government of Tapa planned to allocate 4.37 hectares of land, not far from Valgma. Initially, the board and the church came to an agreement on the place of construction, then they decided to reconsider the decision. The church collected 658 signatures about changing the place of construction of the church. Representatives of the church considered that the central square of the city would be the most suitable place for the church. Therefore, I had to change the layout of the city. The earliest design of the church was written on September 18, 1930. The project was created by: A. Podsekaev and Boris Kryummer. August 22, 1931 the project was approved. The design of the front facade of the building was written by the road architect, August Tauk. The consecration of the church took place on the first Sunday of Advent in 1932. That year, that day fell on November 27th. The altar canvas was painted in 1935. The author of the canvas, which depicts Jesus blessing people, is a Russian icon painter, O. Oboyaninov. The internal repair of the church was carried out in 1953–55 and 1972–74. The roof of the church tower was built in 1193. January 13, 1994 the roof on the crane erected in place.
