The church was built in 1838-39 by the architect M. Strauss. The structure is quite simple: a long polygonal choral building is complemented by a massive quadrangular belfry, located in the western part of the church (bell of 1878). The building was abandoned since 1967. The building was restored in 1989 (architect K. Klimand). The interior is dominated by vaulted ceilings. On the southern wall of the choral room is a picture of "Ascension to Heaven" (1989, R. Auer). The Pyhäõgi church is located in Ida-Virumaa county, in Toila, in the village of Pühajõgi. The church belongs to the Jõhvi kiyelkonda and is an auxiliary church. The village of Pühajõgi was first mentioned in the Danish evaluation book in 1241. The church was built in 1467, the first building of the church was wooden, it was not far from the modern location of the church. Whether the church itself was destroyed or destroyed, the history of records did not leave. In 1654 - 1744 years. the church had an independent parish, however, later, the church became part of the Jõhvi church, and the independent parish became an auxiliary one. According to the data of 1788, the school of Pühayõgi functioned until 1861. The first stone of the new stone church was laid on May 26 in 1836. The patron in the construction of this church was the landowner Otto von Stackelberg and the judge of the Jõhvi County, Reinhold von Arnold from the Järve manor. At that time, Karl Friedrich Kosh was the parish teacher, Karl Gustav Masing was a kistor. The architects of the church are Madis Strauss from Künnapõhja (later he worked at the school as Päät Teacher). The new church was built in 1838, the consecration of the church took place in 1839.
