The Carved Stone Museum presents the carved stone collection of Tallinn City Museum and is located in the Inger Bastion tunnel, which dates to the 17th century. Guests will find decorative and exciting carved stone fragments of Tallinn, including portals, decorative poles, courtyard stones with house marks and symbols and carved window trims from the 15th century. The museum’s carved stone collection holds more than 600 pieces that once were a part of Old Town buildings. Most of these are decorative stones with a story to tell. The exhibition of more than 200 carved stones is titled the City of Ruins and it is brought together by atmospheric light and different thematic chambers. Carved stones were one of the main export articles in medieval Tallinn. These were taken to Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands and Northern Germany. The stone carvers from St. Olaf’s Guild in Tallinn were mostly Estonian.

A very interesting museum. The exposure is small. It is better to take a package with an excursion to the Kik in de Kök bastions and the Tallinn History Museum. In the dungeon, you can also see real living stalactites.
