The store's register is set up in a way that while packing your stuff, it is easy to (mistakenly) take next customer's things, the area for purchased or checked items is virtually nonexistent. The previous customer took our item because the clerk put them so close together. Since we had already paid by the time of noticing, we were forced to buy another of the same item, even though the clerk admitted that she was certain the other person took it.
