A monument to Ramon Llull (‘the Stairway of Understanding’) by Josep Subirach. Llull was a 13th century Catalan Majorcan mathematician, philosopher, mystic and missionary. The nine blocks of knowledge spiral skywards against a sublime mountainous and monastic backdrop.nFenced off because so many people were climbing it to have their photo taken on top.

Why didn’t I give this 5 stars? Because the steps have been fenced off and I couldn’t get a photo like I wanted. I was seriously let down by this because it’s been a bucket list item for me.nnAside from that.... the views and architecture are definitely worth the long trip from Barcelona.nnThe train tickets weren’t cheap but the landscape and scenery was ud83dude0d!!
