The parish church of Our Lady of the Assumption of Arisgotas (now Orgaz, Toledo) is a sample of singular popular architecture (ss. XV-XVI). Unique rectangular nave with choir, straight head and slightly pointed arch, which gives access to the altar. Sacristy and chapel of the Candelaria - which opens with a semicircular arch (15th century) - on both sides of the altar. Baroque southern access roof of padded ashlars and porch of two Doric columns. Characteristic circular tower, with internal spiral staircase (bell cast by Juan Yuste in 1631). Built in granite stone and brick. Carvings of polychrome wood (Christ of the Faith -patrón de Arisgotas- on the main altar, crowned by the Black Virgin with the Child and the orb -the holder Ntra. Mrs. of the Assumption-, baroque altarpiece of the Virgen de la Candelaria in the side chapel), and Mudejar coffered ceilings of the s. XV (the main chapel, the only nave and especially the Candelaria chapel). Visigoth architectural or sculptural elements reused from other sites (San Pedro de la Mata, Matabueyes Monastery, Los Hitos) and also Roman (Roman white marble votive ara, which serves as a holy water stack and was found in El Prado de Santa Barbara, stele with hexapétala flower called Epitaph of Retugenus, from the 1st century). In the Civil War it worked as a storehouse for potatoes and grains and they were seized baptismal font (s. XII or XIII) and frieze of ceramic tiles by the Republican Artistic Treasure Board (1938), their whereabouts being unknown. New baptismal font made by the Orgaceño master craftsmen Eusebio and Fernando Aparicio. Most of what is seen today is due to the successful archaeological intervention and restoration made between 2005 and 2008.

As can be seen, it belongs to the Quijote route. The church and the town are very close to the Visigothic site of Los Hitos. I have not been able to see it because it was closed. I have included the other photo because this Saturday April 13 they are going to celebrate Visigothic culture days.
