Plaza de Castilla is a roundabout in the northern part of Madrid. The Gates of Europe (Puerta de Europa) are located at the northern end of the square, while the Obelisco de la Caja is located in the center of the square. Towers The Gates of Europe, also known as the KIO Towers (Torres KIO), are 114 m high twin business buildings with 26 floors and stand at an angle of 15 °, which makes them the first curved skyscrapers in the world. The investor sold the buildings upon their completion, so they are now owned by the Spanish bank Bankia and the Finnish brokerage house Realia. The western tower has a heliport bordered in blue, and the eastern one in red. The Caja Madrid obelisk was designed by architect and sculptor Santiago Calatrava as a donation from Caja Madrid on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the bank's founding (1702-2002). According to the original project, the obelisk was supposed to be 120 m high, but due to the complex network of underground tunnels passing under Castilla Square, it was impossible to do due to the weight, so the decision was made to erect a 92 m high and 6 m diameter obelisk. Work on the obelisk began in early October 2007, and on December 23, 2009, the monument was inaugurated by King Juan Carlos I of Spain. in the town of Targu Jiu in the province of Wallachia in Romania. The inner core of the 92 m high monument is a cylindrical metal shaft with a diameter of 2 m, which rests on 3 metal pedestals measuring 2x26 m and weighing 50 tons each.
