Its real name is 'Castrodouro Castle' and it has its origin in a military settlement from the beginning of the first century after Christ.nWhat is preserved is the external structure of what was later the tower of the tribute of the primitive fortress.nnIn the fifteenth century it was occupied by Marshal Pardo de Cela (it is also known as the tower of that historical character). At his death, (he was beheaded), he became the property of the church, dependent on the diocese of Mondoñedo.nnIt was an episcopal residence until the 17th century, then it was abandoned and suffered a serious deterioration.nnFinally, the municipality of Castro de Ouro repaired it at the beginning of the 20th century, (now the tower is completely restored), and became a town hall and seat of the municipal court.nnIt currently houses the tourist information office, exhibition halls, and other units.nnIn summer you can visit from 11 to 14 and from 17 to 20 hours every day (except Mondays). Admission is free and it is worth seeing the reproduction of a rural school, with its desks and slate, temporary art exhibitions, and especially the upper terrace, from which you can enjoy a beautiful view of the valley.nnIt should be noted that in the third week of July a picturesque medieval market is held in the tower and nearby.
