In April 1521, during the War of the Communities, the captain of Carlos I, Diego López de Ávalos appeared at the gates of Mora with two hundred knights and eight hundred infants and invited the neighbors to surrender. These refused and Ávalos ordered to occupy the city. The morachos resisted house to house, until finally they were grouped in the church with the women and children. Then, the royalist soldiers burned the doors and tried to penetrate inside the enclosure, but the fire reached some barrels of gunpowder deposited in the choir which caused a violent explosion. Very few were able to escape through the windows; most died crushed by rubble or suffocated by smoke. Pedro Mártir de Anglería speaks of five thousand victims, the chronicler Prudencio de Sandoval of three thousand and in the accusation document that was later instructed against Acuña to place all responsibility for the catastrophe on him and the neighbors, he cites two thousand dead.nnThe church was rebuilt after the fire.

It is a place of prayer and peace where you can talk to God from you to you

It is a 15th century church that, in 1521 served as a refuge for the people in the communal uprising before the troops of Carlos I of Spain and V of Germany. They resisted until they died before the imperial troops defending the rights of the communities of the Kingdom of Castile. It is currently renovated, gaining a lot of light, with open windows and windows so that the light enters the entire room. A place full of history that is part of the DNA of its inhabitants. Highly recommended!
