The discovery of the medicinal spring is often falsely attributed to the priest Domingo Blanco Lage, who in 1858 installed a bathtub. In 1864 he had the waters analyzed for the first time. As a result of the result obtained, the custom of taking baths in the open air in that bath began, as explained in 1877 by doctor Isidro Pondal, medical director of the Mondariz Spa. Twenty-seven years later, the doctor and chronicler Nicolás Taboada Leal confirmed that the conditions of the fountain had improved slightly. But it was not enough to prevent the long dispute between the Peinador family and the Mondariz City Council for ownership of the Fonte de Troncoso. It was a legal process that delayed the architectural intervention in this enclosure. Although the owners of the spa establishment and the water users made use of it since 1873, the fountain hardly underwent any reform. The winter floods of the Tea River that flooded the spring caused continuous disturbances to the water users. In 1907, the lawsuit in favor of the Peinador was resolved, the new property built a retaining wall to avoid frequent floods, a great stairway to go down to take the waters, and the works projected by Antonio Palacios began. To this day, the spa is abandoned and in disuse.

A capita of paint did not hurtnThe water is very healthy and if you like it it is a delicacy.

Fantastic place, do not hesitate to bring a glass bottle to get water from the fountain ... it will surely be privatized soon and it will never be the same again

Precious fountain, a pity that it is in that state of abandonment and in danger of collapse
