We loved our visit here. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Try and allow enough time to take a picnic and head down to walk the circuit route around the lake. Stunning scenery.

In this article we are going to review the most beautiful places to see in Guadalest, a beautiful medieval town of 208 inhabitants included in the name of one of the most beautiful towns in Spain, and why not, also on the Costa Blanca, largely thanks to the Castell de Guadalest from which we will give a couple of brushstrokes to soak up its magic.nnGuadalest is a town with Muslim roots that forms a valley between the Sierra de Xortà and Serrella, the Sierra de Aitana and the Sierra de Bernia, located in the interior of the province of Alicante, its most famous and beautiful places of interest are: Castell (or castle) of Guadalest, the town and the reservoir (or swamp).nnAll the places that we will see below we can visit with children if we want, since it is not a difficult route or anything like that.nThe Castillo de San José, also known as the Castell de Guadalest, is located on a large rock in the highest part of the town, this 11th century castle was the base of the Muslim troops before the reconquest. The castle has suffered two earthquakes so much of it is in ruins. During the 70s, the town began to be a point of visit for many tourists, at which time it was declared a historical-artistic complex.nNext to the Castillo de San José is the Casillo de la Alcozaiba (or Alcozaba de Guadalest). It is a restored watchtower with a wide range of vision over the valley.nnGuadalest Castle HoursnVisiting hours to the castle are from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., except on Thursdays and Sundays, which closes from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.nHowever, if you need more information, the telephone number for the tourist office is 965 885 298 and the e-mail [email protected] VILLAGEnThe entrance to the suburb (nucleus of the town) is through a tunnel that crosses the rock of the mountain on which the castle is built. The streets of the town breathe a beautiful medieval atmosphere with the cobbled streets. Right at the entrance we will meet a photographer who will take a photo (without obligation) and offer us to materialize it on a keychain or similar souvenirs.nIf we go a little further, we find on our right the Church of our Lady of the Assumption. The town is full of craft shops, museums, and restaurants.nThe town hall is in the central square of the town, with a bench that allows us to enjoy splendid views of the valley. An interesting fact is that under the town hall is an old prison in the form of dungeons from the 12th century.nGUADALEST RESERVOIRnThe Guadalest reservoir / swamp / dam is one of the most beautiful places in the province of Alicante. The water in this reservoir comes from the Guadalest river. There is a very simple and pleasant route to do at any time of the year that surrounds the swamp.nnTHE GUADALEST MUSEUMSnDespite being a small town, much of the history that surrounds its walls and the civilizations that have passed through Guadalest is preserved. We can find the following museums:n1. The Orduña housen2. Antonio Marco Museum / Bethlehem Museum and Dollhousesn3. Microminiatures Museumn4. Microgiant Museumn5. Medieval Historical Museumn6. Vall de Guadalest Historical Vehicle Museumn7. Bicycle museumn8. Salt and Pepper Museumn9. Ethnological Museum
