It is an endearing and collected place

The current hermitage of Santa Maria del Villar is a Romanesque hermitage of the municipal district of Bigues i Riells, in the Vallès Oriental, within the scope of the old rural parish of Sant Mateu de Montbui, currently integrated in the municipality of Riells del Fai It is located next to the east of the important village of El Villar, which belongs to the municipal district of Sant Feliu de Codines; The boundary of the two municipal terms goes just in between the farmhouse and the chapel. This church was one of the medieval parishes of the barony of Montbui, and later passed to depend on Santa Maria de Caldes de Montbui. It is currently included in the bishopric of Vic and belongs to the parish of Sant Feliu de Codines, which is much closer than Sant Vicenç de Riells. The site of Villar is documented from 1007, and the church, from 1195, although there is a record of consecration of the church dated 1193, but it is apocryphal. It is a little documented church, throughout history. It is a temple with a single rectangular nave, with small dimensions, with a semicircular apse on the east, as ruled by the canons of the Romanesque. The vault of the apse is Romanesque, the fourth part of the sphere, but in the nave the roof is baroque, as a result of the various modifications that the hermitage has suffered over the years: extension of the ship on the west side, new construction of the north and west façades ... A Romanesque stature of the Mother of God of the Milk was preserved, which disappeared during the civil war. There is currently a faithful but modern reproduction.
