The information board outside made the church sound interesting but we were not able to enter.

An epigraph attached to the facade explains the history of the place. "In 1738 Don Álvaro and Don Isidro Carvajal y Lancaster, canons of the Cathedral of Cuenca, founded the Church of San Felipe Neri in the midst of strong neighborhood protests by the narrowing and invasions of the adjacent streets that the new church caused, including the disappearance from the old street of San Andrés. The church, somewhat disconcerting in its current layout, is the product of the transformations that the architect José María de Aldehuela carried out from 1947 when adding the Angustias chapel to the old church, the first with an elliptical plan that was built in Cuenca . To carry out his chapel, the architect rearranged the building, converting the arm of the transept into the nave of the chapel, lavishly decorating it, and placing the entrance to the temple on the transept itself, so that the final result presents the superposition of two floors, that of the church and the one of the chapel, that fight to prevail to the visitor. It represents, in reference to religious art, one of the few existing examples in Spain of the rococo style in its purest environmental and decorative expression, truly constituting an authentic masterpiece of eighteenth-century architecture in the region.
