An inspiring place, although it is difficult to make an objective judgment about one of the main attractions of the town where you live. The Salinar de Peralta, whose construction dates back to the Roman Empire, has been a fundamental economic engine for the town for centuries. The production of salt by evaporation, the main activity of the Salinar, ceased definitively at the end of the last century.
Despite the fact that actions have been carried out both from the town hall and from the associations for its restoration, there is much to be done and, meanwhile, the deterioration of the facilities is accentuated with the passage of time.
Despite this, it is an (almost) obligatory visit if you pass through Peralta. Access is by a paved track that starts from the pools and is well signposted, although you have to walk it (there is a chain halfway).
Very nice and curious place to visit, and more if Mr. Luis explains that he is an authentic expert in these matters, everything was very nice to visit the town, the school and the salt. Congratulations.
We had the chance to visit the salinas romanas de la sal salal with the mayor of the village who was our host in Airbnb and who is a lover of his village and who works heart and soul to revitalize his village. He himself had worked in these saltworks when he was younger and opened the site just for us and told the story of this historic site. These saltworks date from the Roman era and unfortunately were closed years ago because more profitable. The wish of the mayor being to revitalize and restore beautiful site to be able to turn it into a salt water station for the public and for the benefits that could have type of baths on the body. We will perhaps come back one day if Luis the Mayor has succeeded his project in this timeless place. If you want to have the best guided tour of the site call the mayor of the village Luis and he will surely make you the same visit as us.
Impressive to see them and know their history, they are not restored but it is nice to know everything that was born from there.
Spectacular place, wonderful views, site full of history, 100% recommended
