beautiful archeological remains of other times The most important civil building is perhaps the old abbey or abbey palace. Built at the time of the Abbot of the River, in the second half of the 18th century, it was a project already caressed by its predecessor, Mr. Rábago, who could not carry it out due to his short stay in our city.
The Abbot lived in a rented house and did not have his own and sufficient warehouses to collect tithes of wine. At this time the abbots decide to build a dwelling worthy of the first ecclesiastical authority. The construction was carried out according to the plans of Ventura Rodríguez.
In 1781 the Abbey Palace is about to be completed. By the confiscation law of 1855 it became the property of the State.
