THE HIDDEN JEWEL OF CANTÁBRICO.-
La Cala de El Secar in Laredo is the most sheltered and hidden place in the Paradise of the Costa Smeralda, it appears once or twice a day for a few hours and we can enjoy the gap between two rocks like the thighs of the Cliff of Secar.
This unique corner allows us to enjoy our imagination and transport ourselves, helped by its landscape and solitude, to incredible places, in this wild, pure and dangerous Cantabrian Sea.
Its access is hidden and it is moderately dangerous. It can be reached through Puebla Vieja de la Villa, heading towards the door of the Virgen Blanca (13th century), passing through the Nursery and following the path to El Secar.
We will find a crossing with a small climb to the left through which we will go in the direction of the volcanic mountain of Atalaya, because following the straight path it would take us to Valverde.
Going up the cobbled path we see on the left the very few remains of the ruins of the castle walls and the Hermitage of San Nicolás, where there was a beguinage of secluded nuns until the end of the 18th century. Its destruction was in the fighting against the French in the early nineteenth century.
When we reach some meadows and see the sea, we observe a small natural path, made by footprints on the land that goes down towards the sea, we continue and at the end we find some rocks on the cliff with little slope by the precipice, which we will pass parallel to the coast for a few meters and at the end we will go down to Cala de El Secar.
This neighborhood of El Secar is made up of scattered houses, orchards and meadows, thus being an agro-livestock nucleus in the heart of Villa Laredana.
Before going you have to look at the tide tables, make sure that it is a high tidal coefficient at low tide and be very attentive to the rise of the water, since it is a very dangerous cove with a storm, the sea hits its waves with great violence, You have to look for the day when the sea is very calm and peaceful.
To the east of Cala del Secar, separated by some large rocks we find El Aila Beach and to the west we can see the remains of Puerto de la Soledad and the exit to the Laredo Tunnel with a small stone beach with dark sand and thick that usually covers the high tide.
