NIL GARCIA DE MIGUEL (08/08/2020)
It was our first time in Santoña and we went to see the information point to see if there was any route to do by bike. They recommended us to go around the mountain and see the lighthouse and they told us that it was possible with the bike and that it was for all ages and they also told us that you could go down to the lighthouse with the bike. Their first mistake was that they did not show us the way well and we got lost at first, then we started to climb the mountain with the bike on a road. We started to go down a stone path and in some moments we had to get off the bike to be able to continue, but hey, it wasn't too difficult on the right side. Just when we get to the descent to get to the lighthouse we see a sign that says: "horse lighthouse 700 ... stairs", you cannot go down to the lighthouse with the bicycle, we have tried it, impossible if you go with the bike on the hand and falling about 4 times. To go back and make the circular turn we have taken the path to the right going up from the lighthouse, the first section requires a little experience to go down without falling over the cliff that falls into the sea, but it is done well and without problem if you have a little skill. When you have been fast for about 5 minutes, you find a path of about 50cm wide with the low cliff and a lot of rocks through which you cannot go with the bike and you have to get off the bike and be very careful not to fall. That is not the worst, about 100 meters beyond there are some climbs like this: "/" of loose stone of very little space wide. Luckily there were 2 of us and one of us got up and took the bike from the one below. that's the case until you get to the road that leads to the Santoña prison. Without exaggeration, I think it is an impossible route to do by bike, the information point will not have done it in their lives. On that excursion, the chain came off 3 times and the change of the bike broke with all the stones that you are giving yourself on the way. The suspension of the blows has also been broken. I do not recommend going there for bike recommendations at all and I doubt they know much more than recommending restaurants and places for tourists to leave their money. Little expert people who have not traveled the mountain path in their lives, little professionalism.
