Incredibly rude staff, the most unpleasant experience I ever had at a place like this. Don't go there, go to one of the many other places with friendly staff and better pastries.

My partner and I visited Guernica at the start of this month (November 2019) and as we knew we would arrived early on a Saturday morning, we had been browsing around the web for well-rated bakeries in the area. Pasteleria Bidaguren Gozotegia came out particularly impressive, so we decided to stop by on the way to the mural and Peace Museum. Now if you want to know if the pastries were any good, I can simply say they were ‘ok’. Not bad, but we had better. The overall experience however, is the sole reason I am writing my first ever Google-review today. As we entered the shop and passed two employees who stood in the doorway waiting to transport out racks with goods, we closed our umbrella’s (the rain was pouring down) and lay them neatly in a corner to ensure we wouldn’t bother anyone – even though the shop was still completely empty at this point. For starters, unlike all other Basques we had met during our holidays, the young lady behind the counter was plain rude and either dreading her work, or otherwise not much in favour of tourists. I suspect the latter. During our 2-minute or so interaction, all she said was a repeated ‘mas?!’, collected the money and handed us our order. As we were ready to leave the shop, we turned around and could no longer see our umbrella’s. But, we soon found them.. smashed in the small bin that stood just outside the main entrance door. In other words, the exact position were the other employees were positioned as we had entered the premises minutes before. There is no question the lady serving us had seen (or even orchestrated) the whole act, which in all fairness, left us speechless. Very childish and unwelcoming. (International) visitors, be warned! Avoid this bakery at all costs.

Very good pastry especially the rice cake and the carolinas aa and the hori baltzas specialty of the house. Highly recommended

Typical pastry shop located in the center of Guernica. They have a good selection of handmade pasta. We tried some good chocolate almonds, however, coffee is terrible. The kindness of the dependents and the housekeeper is very much improved.
