The Casa de la Encomienda was built in the 14th century to give shelter to the commander of the Order of Alcántara during his visits to the council, having named the town of La Zarza the preferred head of Encomienda. The building underwent several reforms, the most important being those undertaken in 1598, in which it acquired its current appearance.nIt was used as a fortress on several occasions, especially from 1640, during the clashes between Castilians and Portuguese.nState of conservation. It is in good condition, although reformed with respect to its original physiognomy.
