Twelve Chants Gate.nnAs always I remind you that this photo is from my photographic archive, since #yomequedoencasa, and today I want to dedicate it to all those people who are dedicated to cleaning, both in some places and in others. You are necessary, my encouragement.nnSurely for many people from Toledo I will be wrong to upload the photo, but no ... this is the true Doce Cantos Gate, many people confuse it with the one in front of the Alcántara Bridge, but it is not like this, this is the correct one, I assure you .nnThe Puerta de Doce Cantos, it can be said that it is the most modest and most unknown door in Toledo.nnThis door, given its proximity - barely two hundred and fifty meters - is often confused by tourists and, sometimes, even by the people of Toledo with the Alcantara door, as I have already said, and in case someone does not locate it, it is raising its own It costs Twelve Cantos, just after passing the traffic light.nnIt is a typically Islamic door, presumably built in the 10th century, which unfortunately reaches today in poor condition. Among other things, because it is located under where the Hospital de Santiago was, demolished in 1884, part of whose debris fell on the poor door.nnBut before it was already in poor condition since in 1760 there was a landslide that knocked down a large part of the Twelve Door. This collapse was due to torrential rains that were on the day of Kings.nnIn its reconstruction, part of the demolition stones and part of Juanelo Turriano's artifice stones were used.nnAnd in case someone is curious about the name, to say that there are two versions for such a curious name, the first says that it is because this door had twelve ashlars on its facade; and others say that it is because the word “pipes” was misused, and that it made reference to a fountain that had twelve pipes… and that came from the old Roman aqueduct in Toledo.nnAnd in case someone still does not locate it, they are looking at the Doce Cantos Gate towards the Infantry Academy and it was made in the Muslim era as part of the wall that protected Toledo, although over time it lost its usefulness, which added to its small dimensions, it caused that the adjacent wall was demolished in the 18th century to open the current ascent to Calle Cervantes, leaving the Puerta de Doce Cantos relegated to ostracism.nnI think that with this I already situate, and although it may surprise you to many people from Toledo, this is the true Door of Twelve Cantos.nAs always what matters is that you liked the photo, even if the car that appears never comes off, hahaha.
