Fountain attributed to the Italian sculptor Michelangelo Naccherino (Florence, 1550 - Naples, 1622) and the Spanish Renaissance architect Juan Bautista de Toledo (Toledo or Madrid, around 1515 - Madrid, May 10, 1567). Known as the Apollo fountain, the sculpture of the fountain does not show any element related to the Greek god (lyre and laurel wreath). The sculpture represents Vertummo, a Roman divinity who personifies the notion of change, of the mutation of vegetation during the seasons. It preceded the ripening of the fruits during the summer and was attributed the gift of transforming itself into all the forms or things it desired.
