Located on Cánovas del Castillo street (Pontón) corner with Teniente Ochoa de Linares street, the Old Hospital of San Juan de Dios (18th century), was declared a National Monument in 1962. The exuberant and symmetrical Baroque style facade stands out. . Above the main door we find a niche with a sculpture of San Juan de Dios. The rest of the decoration is based on geometric and vegetal elements, as well as small sculptures of naked children.nnOriginally, this house belonged to D. Bernabé Polaina and in 1713 it was ceded to the order of San Juan de Dios for the constitution of a hospice-infirmary. In 1745, the building of the first hospital in Linares was almost finished and in 1760 the construction of the annexed church begins, sponsored by Bartolomé García Escobosa, which was consecrated in 1769. In 1835, when the religious community disappeared, the hospital passed to be managed by the municipal charity and its assets were put up for sale.nnIn 1848 the hospital was transferred to the old convent of San Francisco and, since then, this building has had various uses, including: theater, primary school, first offices of the newly created Civil Guard, provisional headquarters of Post and Telegraph, headquarters provisional of the Municipal Council, Criminal Hearing, School of Experts of Mines, Institute of Secondary Education and, since 1985, it is the seat of the Palace of Justice.
