This large battlemented building is located in the municipality of Agolada. It was erected in the s. XVI on the remains of the fortress destroyed in the Irmandiña Revolt of 1467.nnThe lands of Borraxeiros belonged to the house of Altamira, as e.g. to Lope Sánchez de Ulloa, who was distinguished in 1459 by the Archbishop of Compostela as the 1st Count of Altamira.nnAlready in the s. XVI passed into the hands of the miter of Santiago and, by Pontifical bull of Gregory XII, Philip II was authorized to sell them (for 9000 ducats) in the year 1583 to D. Antonio Salgado Gundín, clergyman of the house of Laxe in Monterroso. The sarcophagus of Salgado Guntín is a few meters away, in the Romanesque church of Santo Cristovo de Borraxeiros

The Borraxeiros fortress was owned by the Altamira house. Also like many Galician fortresses, it was demolished during the Irmandiña Revolution in 1467.nnOf the old castle of Borraxeiros built in the reconquest, between the 8th and 15th centuries, many elements were used for the construction in the 17th century, of the PAZO DE SALADO, known today as the Pazo de Borraxeiros, which is one of the most beautiful works of civil architecture that are preserved today in Galicia, and worth visiting, but being privately owned, it is not possible.nnIt is a rectangular-shaped construction, with a two-storey crenellated façade, with an interesting neoclassical door and a Baroque fireplace, a large interior balcony, a parade ground and a chapel.nnIts history is deeply linked to the LAND OF VENTOSA.nnBelonged to Vasco López de Ulloa and later Lope Sánchez de Ulloa, 1st Count of Altamira, to whom the archbishop of Santiago de Compostela, Rodrigo de Luna, gave the title in 1459.nnAmong the privileges over the neighbors that the lord of the pazo enjoyed, is the RIGHT OF LUCTUOSA (right paid to the lords and prelates when their subjects died, which sometimes consisted of a jewel or garment of the deceased, well the one that he indicated in his will, either the one that the lord or prelate chose).nIn the village, there is the Romanesque church of SAN CRISTOVO DE BORRAXEIROS, where the tomb of Antonio Salgado Gundín, Count of Borraxeiros, is located, dressed with a praying statue of the 17th century.
