The Pitillas Lagoon, with its 206 hectares, is the most extensive steppe-like wetland and endorheic origin of those existing in Navarra and one of the most important in the Ebro Valley. It stands out for the abundance and diversity of waterfowl species they choose this lagoon to spend the winter or to reproduce. It is also a strategic place for the rest and feeding of numerous birds that migrate through the western Pyrenees route. Declared Natural Reserve in 1987, it was included in the network of Special Protection Areas for Birds in 1991 and has been listed as a Wetland of International Importance since 1996. Located on a dominant hill above the lagoon, the observatory is an ideal viewpoint to see the birds present in the different areas of the Nature Reserve. Through a set of panels and various graphic and audiovisual material, the visitor receives extensive information on the ecological characteristics of the lagoon, mainly on aspects related to waterfowl. Also, the history and origin of the wetland is exposed. A set of guides, binoculars and telescopes are available to visitors, with which to identify the birds that come to the Pitillas Lagoon at some point in their life cycle.
