The most common plant species are reeds, reeds and cattails. At the edges of its paths there are typical plant species of humid areas, or riverside forests such as hazelnuts, willows, birches or ash trees. Its greatest wealth of fauna appears at the beginning of autumn and winter, a period in which it is easy to observe a large number of migratory species. The Nature and Man Foundation offers the visitor an itinerary to get to know the House of Nature, an interpretation center for the surroundings of the Bay of Santander, for a small price, if they wish to opt for the guided route. However, the tour can be done on behalf of someone else, since the site is free to enter and has different observatories and a viewpoint that allow the visitor to observe birds, for example, herons, cormorants, geese, mallards, etc. The salt marshes can be accessed through the Casa de la Naturaleza located on the edge of the parking lot of the Valle Real Shopping Center and then through the interconnected trails, go through the rest of the areas.
