As a self-described coffee addict, it's interesting to visit the birthplace of coffee. Coffee is deeply ingrained into the daily life in Ethiopia, evidenced by the plethora of coffee vendors interspersed on alleys and roadways in any town or city, large or small.
Despite this, coffee in Ethiopia is delicious, and takes on a different flavor than the art nouveau coffee shops in Seattle or San Francisco. There isn't an emphasis on the quality of coffee bean or consistent roasting: all green beans are thrown over a rusty pan and roasted on-the-spot for immediate consumption. The result is a coffee is that more herbaceous and rustic in flavor.
This perhaps explains why the the coffee beans at Nure are inconsistently roasted; and the bean quality leaves much to be desired. If you're looking for beans to take home, maybe save that money for a bag of freshly roasted beans back home. The coffee produced here is only suitable for the Ethiopian context, and the Ethiopian method of brewing.
Friendly staff, you can smell the coffee from a block away!
A small coffee roasting operation, where you can see the production area, and buy coffee beans, if you choose.
