ABC Rental PLC

I survived a very imminent danger of collision 💥 with ABC bus around Sarbet . The driver was unable to control the bus. He was behind me , initially overspending and I was driving at 50kmh. He then overtook me ,blocked my road ,jumped out of the bus , insulted me with all trash words in the middle of main road ...ABC needs to hire experienced drivers..it's really dangerous FYI : PLATE NO 36062

I always rent cars all over the world but I never been to a rental car company like this one. I have to beg for 3 days to get a car every time I come there they have more then 10 cars on their parking lot but they always say there rented out I think they just love to waste peoples time and energy if I was anyone else I would never ever take my business there

We rented a self-drive SUV for 23 days from ABC, one of the few agencies to rent to foreigners for driving outside Addis on tourist visas and foreign licenses. Had a great rental, a 2013-built Nissan Patrol on the 1996 design (yes, no typos) with a little over 100,000 km on it. It drove fine, really nothing else we could have asked for. Glad they rented cars without drivers for people who want to do road trips of Ethiopia themselves. Cash deposit required of 20,000 birr (or USD equivalent) was returned when we returned the car, no issues at all. One passport from one passenger was also left with the office, standard in Ethiopia, returned also with no issue. NOTE: the cars are rented very far in advance. We booked 10 weeks in advance and got their last SUV available. Not so many cars are rented for outside Addis. Most rentals are just valid for the metro area, especially the newer and nicer vehicles. Good rental, agents speak great English and are pleasant to deal with. Credit cards accepted for payment — full and in advance (!) — we used AmEx because of the AmEx insurance policy, no problem at all. The rental comes with insurance by default from the agency as well — you’ll want it, and no option not to take it even if you have foreign insurance. Probably better to have both local and foreign insurance to be honest. All around a good rental. Not the newest cars but honestly you don’t -want- a new car if you’re doing a road trip of Ethiopia, having something a little older is nice as you are way less conspicuous. Cars are VERY expensive in Ethiopia, due to a 100-150% import tax, which is reflected in the rental. We paid around $100/day all together including gas and mileage. 150km/day was included, over that was a paltry 2.3 birr (like 6 cents) per km. Anyway we didn’t go over the limit, we did something like 2700km in 23 days. We returned the car nearly empty on fuel due to sudden shortages in the country and had no issue — ABC was great and only charged us the cost of the diesel that we would have paid in a station. Very kind! Keep in mind this is 5* for Ethiopia. If you’re used to European rentals then this will be extremely expensive and with onerous conditions. But, you will (a) get a car and (b) are allowed to self drive, which was all we wanted, and they met that criteria and with no hidden fees or surprises on pickup or return, which is a 5* rental in my eyes. Obviously paying fully in advance and leaving an original passport might be stressful for some people, but if little things like that bother you, self driving in Ethiopia is probably not a good idea for your stress levels in general.

When the car breaks down, they replace it right away. You're gonna have to remind them when the time for oil change and mechanical check comes. Otherwise you will drive the car for thousands of kilometres after its service time.

Bit expansive but they have better car for Ethiopia.
