On holiday with family, ILRI is a bit of a second home - we signed up for a month (c. £50 / 2700 br) to join the Zebu Club - this gives you access to the club (good food and drinks, well priced), swimming pool, playground, gym, tennis and basketball courts and football ground - perfect when you need somewhere to go. Electricity and water is constant and there is good internet connectivity too. We typically went to gym in the morning and swimming and tennis in the afternoon. The same price will get you a single day at the Sheraton or Hilton... As a place to work it seems to be a fantastic setting - beautiful grounds near the heart of Addis, multiple research institutes working together and linkages to significant foundations. There is everything from an onsite hostel and housing to a bank, multiple research facilities and project spaces and many varieties and species of plants and trees from across Ethiopia planted somewhere in the grounds. Nearby transport is good - from the light railway to local taxis and contract cars. The staff are brilliant and always helpful.

The International Livestock Research Institute, also more commonly known as ILRI, is a nice place. It is one of the most "green" locations in Ethiopia. Though rather seclusive, ILRI is a fantastic compound featuring a real playground, a swimming pool, a tennis club, several walking trails, a restaurant, and several lawns with benches. Now this may not seem much, but it is a lot for Ethiopia. Overall, I recommend it.
