Legehar train station (French: La Gare), was the main railway station in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the terminal station of the metre-gauge Ethio-Djibouti Railway that connected Ethiopia's capital to the Port of Djibouti. Completed in 1917, the station was a central part of the city and the main source of traffic into the city. The style of the station is French, reflecting the nationality of its builders.
The station is no longer in operation, as the metre-gauge railway has been largely superseded by the standard-gauge Addis Ababa–Djibouti Railway completed in 2017. The standard-gauge station is located in the outskirts of Addis Ababa.
The first Ethiopian train station, with its antique building.
The new high rises & sky scrapers around Leghare.
The first station in East Africa connecting Addis Abeba with Djibouti . The station stopped operating as the main hub of the rail way route which was changed some time ago.
In the center of Addis Abbeba is Legehar Central Station, built in 1917 in the French style. The metre-gauge railway Ethio-Djibouti connected Addis Ababa with Port of Djibouti and thus enabled access to the sea. After the completion of the new standard gauge railway in the north of Addis Abeda, the operation was stopped. Today the Legehar train station is popular with railway enthusiasts.
