A well cultivated area at the center of Addis holding the Canon made by Emperor Tewodros.
Sebastopol was the name of a large artillery mortar commissioned by the Ethiopian emperor Tewodros II. The name was taken from the Crimean town Sevastopol, the site of a battle during the Crimean War. The mortar weighed approximately 6.7 tons, and was capable of firing off half-ton artillery rounds.
King Tewodros II was Ethiopian king around 1860s, and he was visionary to restore Ethiopias unity and modernization, which is denoted by the canon named Sebastopol build in his time.
A replica of a cannonball artillery named "ሴባስቶፓል መድፍ" made during the reign of King Tewodros II. The square is named as a tribute to the King.
This place is good mark and well known status in Addis Ababa.
