Karl Square

High scale residential area close to city center.

This square is dedicated for Mr.Karl who devoted his life to help the vulnerable group of the society in rural ethiopia. He managed to bring a difference in the lives of millions of rural people through his development projects such as schools, health stations, hospitals, vicational training

Get little bit crowded at rush hour

The square situated at a traffic circle on the Ring Road and the main street running from Mexico Square to the Bisrat Gabriel Church. Named Karlheinz Böhm Square, it is nowadays just called Karl Square. So who was he that he had a square named after him with a plinth and an effigy of his bust. He was an Austrian citizen and actor who made a bet on a TV Game show that he would visit Ethiopia that he had never visited before and to raise funds to build a school. Not only did he do that, but then stayed and carried on doing humanitarian work. He founded the NGO Menschen für Menschen, which has grown from strength to strength over the last 3-4 decades, providing clean water, building schools and carrying out numerous other projects throughout Ethiopia. He was granted honorary Ethiopian citizenship and "immortalised" by the statue and square named after him.
