Hudad Lalibela Eco-Lodge & Retreat

Great situation fantastic views, high above Lalibela. Great interaction with local villagers in the evening with singing and dancing. Really great buffet food. Very different...very good

Our stay in Hudad was beautiful. Temesgen was our guide, and it was such a pleasure to have him around. He met us at the airport and accompanied us throughout our stay in Lalibela. The hike to Hudad is gorgeous! It's not long, but quite rocky and steep. The lodge is basic yet wonderful. I got really sick at night, and Temesgen was very caring throughout, and even had a mule ready for me since I was too weak to hike back down. It was cold in the room at night, I probably felt that way due to my sickness. Note that the bathroom is basic and located outside the room. I really want to go back under healthier circumstances! Highly recommended.

This eco-lodge is exactly what it says. It's very nice for a place that has no electricity. The provide hot water to wash off with and enough blankets to keep warm. I visited in December and was comfortable. The reason for the 3 stars is because even though the service was friendly and food offered was very good, they don't have any prices written down. The lunch they give for trekking up being the equivalent of 15€ (rice and veg...basic). The dinner was even more. It can be a hassle if you don't have enough cash to pay at the end of your stay since the ATM is all the way back down in Lalibela :-/ I highly recommend staying a night. The treks where great. Just beware of prices and try to bring your own food/beer if you are on a budget.
