Great place to spend your weekends... and don’t forget to hike in to the cave!
Nature to its finest
Portuguese Bridge is 100 km north of Addis Ababa near the famous Debre Libanos Monastery. The Portuguese Bridge is a small stone bridge believed to have been built in the 16th Century AD. Some say it was made in the late 19th Century AD. Whenever it was built, it is a beautiful small walking bridge together with a fantastic scenery it is set by. If you are lucky, you may spot the Ethiopian endemic mammal – the Gelada Baboon around the Portuguese Bridge.
Such a beautiful spot for hikes. You could explore the area for hours. It’s definitely worth a day trip if you’re in Addis Ababa. It’s not too far, only about a three hours drive. I’d recommend stopping by the Debre Libanos church that’s in the area!
