Lake Zengena

If you need a Very quiet getaway then this is definitely the place to be. It got a history of how this lake was created both in the traditional and scientific way which is very interesting.

The place itself is marvoulous. But we did not feel welcome. The price they ask for camping is ridiculous, compared to other places in Ethiopia. Esp knowing that there is no basic infrastructure, and they throw the trash in the forest. A pity.

Very nice place and communal campsite directly at the crater lake. Funny monkeys roaring like predators at night. Unfortunately there is no real structure there but a meadow between trees. No running or spring water, no closeby toilet. They take the water out of the lake but the crater edge is very steep. You have to book a guide and a guard, so camping there is much more expensive than staying at a good hotel in the cities. Price indication: 1 person from 530 Birr + tips and beverage. Bring your own water and supplies. Beverage can be found in nearby village. The trunk road is only 100 meters away, but the place is shielded from traffic by the forest. Entry without staying at night 30 Birr / person.
