The stones are ordered in a random way but the descriptive signs are amazing.

The Tiya site is among the most important of roughly 160 archaeological sites discovered in the Soddo region in Ethiopia. The site contains 36 monuments, including 32 carved stelae covered with symbols, most of which are difficult to decipher.

Mysterious place. Yet you don't know if the inscriptions haven't been made later..

Tiya, 85 km south of Addis Ababa, is famous for its cemetery which is inscribed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. At Tiya, see about 40 huge blocks of stones decorated with carvings and were erected between 12th and 13th Century AD. It is believed that these obelisks or steles were erected in honor of local hero. Entrance fee to visit this site is 130 Ethiopian Birr (about 4.5 US Dollars) per person for foreign visitors. Check out also the ticket office to see photos of other steles found around Tiya. Visitors can visit the Steles of Tiya with a day trip from Addis Ababa and combine it with visit of the rock church of Adadi Mariam.
