Maisons Troglodytes

Ran across this by accident. Definitely worth a stop!

Very cool string of houses built into the rock cliff above Graufthal. The houses were abandoned in 1958 after the last inhabitant died, and can now be visited as a museum. Worthwhile visit if you are in the area.

This place is exceptional. You are greeted with incredible kindness. The association that manages this place is extraordinary. The place is perfectly restored. Everything is clean, nickel. You absolutely have to turn away from your road to visit this incredible place still inhabited in 1958 by Catherine Ottmann, who died there. Be careful, however, you cannot go up there with high heels or flip-flops. On site there is a picnic table, a path leading to the forest, a restaurant, goat cheese sales, etc. A MUST SEE.

We went on the tour as a group and had a wonderful guide who told us the history of the village and the houses was really interesting.
