Eglise paroissiale, ancienne abbatiale Notre-Dame

The Notre-Dame church is remarkable and it can be visited all year round, this is not the case with the Abbey. On the site of a Romanesque building, of which a sublime porch has been preserved, Louis XI will start the construction of a large church between 1470 and 1477. A Gothic church, destroyed in the 16th during the wars of religion, rebuilt in the 17th taking into account the plan of the previous building. From the 15th century building, there remains the monumental bell tower, in the form of a fortified tower. When you enter the church on this west side, you arrive in the narthex, the Romanesque multi-lobed portal, which gives access to the nave, is of a beauty that I found dazzling. The nave has three vessels, and eight chapels, placed in the north and south walls, give an impression of space, like two additional aisles. This church is large but welcoming and warm.
