Very beautiful church with a very particular ceiling. A great discovery.

Parish church of the beautiful village of Gimel-les-Cascades, the current church of Saint-Pardoux dates from the late fifteenth century, and after its austere exterior, houses great surprises inside. When entering, the amplitude of the nave is striking, and even more so the late medieval paintings of the apse, whose chronology is discussed, although it is admitted that the left is older. It depicts Saint Anthony Abbot - with his staff finished in tau and the animals of which he is patron - painted on another saintly bishop on whose side the praying donor is distinguished. On your right, the Trinity. On the right side, the Annunciation is contemplated by the donor clergyman, clad in talares vestments and protected by San Pardoux bishop, owner of the temple, and accompanied by a female figure on his back. Behind them a knight armed with his coat of arms. Even more important is the treasure of this seemingly humble parish church, in which a reliquary of enamel from Limoges stands out in the second half of the 12th century. He had to keep a relic of St. Stephen, because on the side that is exhibited to the public, scenes of the saint's life are represented, notably his martyrdom, stoned, on the top. Limoges enamel are also a medallion, contemporary of the reliquary, and a pyx-box to keep the consecrated hosts-something later.
