The Tourist Office is housed in this particular place that is the Château Stanislas like other municipal services. The welcome was pleasant, but this period of Covid-19 limits tourist possibilities. Château Stanislas has a special history. In the 17th century, it was inhabited by Cardinal de Retz. But the current construction dates from 1708, the Count of Vaudémont then had a Baroque building erected on the remains of the medieval castle. From 1744, it became the property of the father-in-law of King Louis XV, former King of Poland, Stanislas Leszczynski. Then began a period of prosperity, this castle becomes a sumptuous hunting area. This period will be followed by a gradual dismantling after the death in 1766 of Stanislas Leszczynski. The 18th and 19th century will see it lose its magnificence, a fire destroyed most of it in 1944. The town bought it in 1957 and began a restoration which lasted 20 years. Today it is a place of reference and can be visited.

Very unpleasant reception at the tourist office. Having visited various French and foreign sites for the past 15 days, someone explains to me in an unfriendly manner that a reservation 24 hours in advance is necessary for the visit of the castle, due to the covid. Is. What is more unpleasant is being called a liar when you have the misfortune of explaining that it is not the same on major sites such as Verdun or others. Fortunately, the welcome was much warmer at the Museum of Ceramics and Ivory. Too bad that this town places such an unprofessional person in the tourist office, in such a strategic position. Enough to make you want to not come back!

A welcoming place, the staff is not at all stingy of good advice. There is all the necessary documentation and some exhibits. When going out, enjoy a good coffee in the square ...
