Église Notre-Dame-de-la-Couldre

Magnificent historic place which deserves a beautiful renovation !!

Little remains to be seen, but it is magnificent. Everything is in the title: A magnificent portal that makes one just regret that this church is gone. But the rue de la Citadelle holds good surprises and for walkers, young and old, it can be the starting point for a superb walk, Parthenay is full of heritage riches; in the immediate vicinity of the Notre-Dame-de-la-Couldre church, the Citadel gate, the Sainte-Croix church and the castle.

It was a beautiful Romanesque church that was the seat of the Archpriest of Parthenay. It dates from the 12th century. Only the lower part of the facade, visible from the street, as well as the side walls and an apse remain standing today. The portal presents a semicircular archivolt with five arches, four of which are historiated.
