This beautiful Catholic church in Metz is considered to be one of the oldest church and dedicated to Saint Martin de Tours. Discovered this by accident as I was heading back to the station and noticed the bell tower. Being an old church, it's history traced back to the Gallo-Roman era and remnants of that period is still evident in the church, especially the Gallo-Roman enclosure on the church portal and the "narthex", like a vestibule before the nave. Besides being remarkably spectacular inside, I was intrigued by the "Stations of the Cross" displays all on one wall; the right side of the nave! The nave is actually slightly raised and flanked by rows of columns towards the transept. The liturgical choir is of early sixteenth century flamboyant style and quite elegant. There are some impressive stained-glass windows inside with a beautiful grandstand organ. Highly recommended to visit and admire this beautiful old church as it's right in the center of the "French side" of Metz, about fifteen minutes walk from Metz railway station.

The Church of Saint-Martin is one of the oldest Catholic churches and parishes in Metz. The 1881 stained glass windows are the work of Messin Laurent-Charles Maréchal, master glassmaker from Metz. You will see in the church a superb reclining virgin nursing the baby Jesus. the church is very bright. To have

Located near the very center of Metz, the Saint Martin church is easily accessible thanks to the proximity of the Republic car park. People with reduced mobility ♿ welcome. After the visits to the Récollets cloister, the Cour d'Or Museum, that of the Saint Martin church brings our visit to Metz to a close. Here again, lovers of old stones will find architectural wonders there. But also sumptuous stained glass windows. Please note that there are steps at the entrance, it may be necessary to be accompanied. For a day's visit to Metz, you have the option of using Métis services from the parking lots on the outskirts. People with mobility ♿ are welcome.
