One star is too much for this residence and its service

The absolute worst experience I have ever had, living at an AEU residence completely ruined my exchange experience. Many times there was no running electricity, no heating in my room, no internet, the housing managers did not care to help fix these problems. Luckily on exchange I had kind international friends who let me stay in there rooms for some nights. Before moving into an AEU residence I really recommend speaking to any student that has lived there before as every exchange student I knew faced the exact same problems.

Never in your life chose a residence under the AEU's power. No hot water. No heating after 10pm. Cockroaches!!!!. No kitchen after 11pm.

A collection of haughty incompetents who want to be close to young people. Their incompetence to manage the slightest problem unfortunately causes the opposite effect (Cf. LDB). A team that has collapsed over the years. However, I spent my best years studying with them, not thanks to them, but thanks to the friendliness of certain residences and their residents. Mouse, technical problems, internet portal blocking the majority of games, doors that do not close, homeless visit, isolation problems, gross incompetence in other words. S / o Sylvie, our housekeeper, a real little ray of sunshine lost in the middle of this messy chaos that is the AEU.

I start with the negative because it is in this case the most useful to know. I stayed for 2 years at the Notre-Dame 20 rue Lydéric residence and I can say that the prices are open to criticism: breakfast included but everything is first price (orange juice, platinum bread, jams and coffee), the electricity would regularly jump in the kitchen when all the hotplates were in use simultaneously, which shouldn't happen. Perhaps the electricity subscription has been seen to be declining? Antiquated windows, occasional smiles on the ground floor and 1st floor, noisy fridge therefore apparently 1st prize, and washing machines out of order on several occasions, although this is also the result of misuse attributable to the student users. I kind of had the feeling that I had been "had" or that the AEU was really looking to make money. Moreover, inexperienced students will not necessarily pay attention to these details and report them. No babysitting in the Notre-Dame residence so be ready to adapt to the noise or ask for a room on the street side because the courtyard is often occupied by students staying up late and the hubbub echoes in the courtyard. Obviously there is something positive because the Notre-Dame residence lends itself to the meeting between students and therefore to the social bond more than others: there is a common kitchen and the rooms are too small to lend themselves to facilities. kitchen, so everyone should go down together. Tip: When you arrive in Lille and you don't know anyone, or you don't necessarily get along with your classmates, it's a good alternative to make friends. However, beware of party-goers who may cause you choppy nights (advice: ask for a small residence for the tranquility of the type found on rue Colbert towards Wazemmes but its name escapes me). In any case, the residency was for me an excellent way to make friends, and constitutes a second circle of relationship in addition to his own school, in addition to being able to practice English if you are with foreign students. In short, the negative: the gap between expectations vis-à-vis the offer and practical reality. The positive: the good atmosphere and the opportunities for friendly meetings that the residence allows. Be aware, however, that when I stayed there (2017-2019) some residences brought together different types of students: international students = international home above all and Notre Dame and other residences closer to the cathedral rather turned to French students. . Advice for girls: watch out for some hot rabbit boys. The residence has since been renovated, but this experience may nevertheless give an idea of the administration of the AEU at the time. It's also been partly overhauled, and it would be unfair to make the news suffer from the bad sides of the old one, but I will advise asking to visit before subscribing. In any case, the AEU enjoys a certain monopoly with the Catholic Church, so good luck with your search for apartments :) Louis
